



Ukkara Pandian picked for inaugural Udayakumar award
India international volleyball player Ukkara Pandian has been picked for the inaugural K.Udayakumar award.
The award was instituted in memory of former Indian international and Arjuna awardee K. Udayakumar by the Volley Family Club, and it is given to the best volleyball player in India. The award carries a prize-money of Rs.50,000.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will give away the award on September 19 which is also Udayakumar’s first death anniversary.
Ukkara Pandian’s name was selected by an award committee headed by Indian coach and Dhronacharya G.E. Sridharan.
While announcing the award, Sridharan said Ukkara Pandian was selected from a shortlist of five players on the basis of having represented India for a longer period of time.
Former International S. Gopinath, Abdul Razzak, K.C. Elamma, Sadanandan and Cyril C. Velloor were among the members of the committee.
